Description: A large and leaking open vented cylinder was the initial problem. The second was the bodged repair by the first plumber on site. He tried to stop the leak with a can of expanding foam!! The addition of foam appeared to work to the ‘plumber’ and flat owner who paid him. Within 24 hours of course they notice the leak that was initially being caught with a cooking pot was now hidden and leaking inside of the foam jacket and coming from under the cylinder soaking everything in its path. That’s when we got the call. When we arrived there was no way to repair the problem as the leak was coming from around the pipe connection to the tank. Once a tank starts leaking around a joint there is little point of attempting a repair. Even if you could solder the copper the foam around the tank would melt or burn and the fuumes would poison you you. We called our friends at Manco who had originally built the tank and were told that although it had been a custom build they could have us a replacement manufactured for the next afternoon. Fabulous!

We isolated and drained the old tank and then had to cut the pipe work which surrounded it like a cage. Once removed we reconnected the pipe work so the home owner had cold water for the night. We arrived the next afternoon with the new cylinder. It was an easy swap as the connections were all in the exact same position as the original. Job done right by the right professionals. Always hire the right people the first time.
