A winner for a couple of reasons. The obvious mistake is the earthing of the plastic back box and not the actual sockets. As the room this was found in has a sink and toilet and the sockets actually feed the washer and dryer which are in touching distance of said wet appliances. This is a room that is used by children all the time and in reality the appliances (built out of large metal chassis) in use have no earth. If there were ever a short in the appliances the metal cases could become live.
Great idea – this is something I will definately look out foreach week. On this occassion I’m afraid you will have to enlighten me – what IS wrong with the picture? Is it the wiring?
The earth wire, which is correctly covered with the green/yellow sleave is connected to the white ‘plastic’ back box/pattres. The earthing needs to run to the socket so as to earth anything that might have been plugged in.
In the case of this situation the socket should never have been placed in the bathroom in the first place.
The situation was made safe when we moved the circuit into an airing cupboard and used it to power a new boiler located nearby.
Thanks for asking.
