Yet another ‘blob’ of tape underneath the floor. The tape is only the first of many problems. If you look at the second photo closely you can just make out the fact that one of the live (red) wires was not actually connected. So the ring main in the house wasn’t actually a ring anymore. The earths were in a similar shape and were not  sheathed as they should have been. Also one  set of earth terminals were not tight.

Every connection should be made securely in a junction box. All earths should be sheathed. Black tape can become a hazard in so many ways (it dries out, it unwraps, it tears) and should never be relied upon to keep your home safe.
