We were originally introduced to this house of electrical horrors when we were asked moinths ago to due a pre-purchase inspection. We showed up to check the gas, electrics and plumbing and discovered no end of issues with all three systems. Things were about to get a lot worse too!

The house required a full re-wire which we started the day the new owners received the keys. As we started to strip out the old cabling we documented so many unsafe situations that we could have written a book on just this one job alone. The one pictured here was one of the many located. The black tape blob was brittle and loose from laying on a damp dirt floor beneath the kitchen. The crimps appeared to be 10mm copper tube pinched with a pair of pliers. Sadly it was the safest connection we found in the house.

In the dinning room next door we found the ring circuit cable lying under the floorboards with the wires stripped back and exposed. The ring had been cut and a three meter section removed effectively turning the old house ring into two long spurs!
