A client of mine asked if I could replace some pull switch wall sconces with a light switch above the bed before they had the bedroom skimmed. Due to scheduling issues I couldn’t get them done quick enough so they made other arrangements. Unfortunately the arrangements they ended up making was that they had the plasterer put in the switches, wire them up to the sconces and then he skimmed the room.

When I arrived back for some other work they asked if I could now replace the sconces and what I found was a mess of wires with live power leads cut and left hanging behind the METAL fixture. I also found in one case that the earth wasn’t connected to the switch and all the insulation had been cut too long leaving sections of live cables floating around behind the metal switch plates.

People are willing to kill themselves with shoddy and unsafe wiring because they can’t wait a week or two for trained professionals to do the job right. A plasterer is just that!! If he isn’t NIC EIC registered then don’t use him.
