This weeks award is hard to see in this picture but was crystal clear when trying to repair a faulty pilot assembly. If you look closely at the ring that holds in the pilot burner assembly and you’ll see that is has deep scratch marks in it.

The reason is that the ring doesn’t actually fit this water heater and has been forced into place in order to get it to work at some point in the past. We discovered the problem when called out to service the unit when it wouldn’t light.

The replacement parts we ordered for this LPG multi point water heater could not be used due to the damage caused from a previous repair. We had to replace the complete burner assembly in order to get the system working the way the designer had intended. The cost was also about ten times more than it should have been due to the extra parts that had to be  installed.
