One of my customers had bought a new house and asked me to replace the electric hob and oven with gas appliances. After we isolated the electrics we removed the built in oven and found this mess.

If you look close you can see that the earth wire on the left side of the connector block isn’t actually hooked up. As both the hob and oven were stainless steel cased it was an electrocution just waiting to happen had the the conditions been right.

I receive a lot of questions relating to cooker installations. Most people don’t realise that any gas appliance, including cookers and hobs require a permit from your local authority in order to install them legally. The installation should be given the same care and attention as a boiler or gas fire. In other words, a device that allows live flames to burn openly in a room (remember that burning fossile fuels releases Carbon Monoxide) doesn’t seem to get the attention that it should! continue

The job was to replace the built in double electric cooker, the extractor and an electric hob. The hob was converted to gas so we had to splice into the gas pipe work which was nearby. After some minor adjustments to the original cabinet work the kitchen looked new again.

Description: The new kitchen did not have a cooker point when we arrived. Due to concrete floors and a difficult house layout we could not run a cable through the upstairs without dismantling every room. We decided to go outside and run the new circuit in trunking so as to minimise damage and disruption to the house. In one day we had the new cooker and hob up and running. continue
