DANGER OF THE WEEK AWARD

Bad Electricians

Having read my previous story about an un-vented cylinder repair in the Northern Quarter a flat owner called to get help with a similar problem.  It all kicked off when the RDC at the flat starting tripping and shutting off the power to the flat. The flat owner called an electrician who found the immersion heater was causing the problem and promptly switched it off.  The electrician then said he could repair the problem but would have to drain the tank to change the element. Description: A flat owner with no hot water called looking for help as they were having problems finding someone who would work in the City Centre. We accepted and after arriving on site we concluded that the heating element in the stainless steel cylinder had gone bad. Description: A large and leaking open vented cylinder was the initial problem. The second was the bodged repair by the first plumber on site. He tried to stop the leak with a can of expanding foam!! The addition of foam appeared to work to the ‘plumber’ and flat owner who paid him. Within 24 hours of course they notice the leak that was initially being caught with a cooking pot was now hidden and leaking inside of the foam jacket and coming from under the cylinder soaking everything in its path. That’s when we got the call. continue
