One of the responsibilities of the plumber or gas fitter when installing a boiler or in this case a hot water heater is to try and ensure that the system is safe and maintainable.
The pipe work shown to the right is what happens when pipes aren’t insulated. In the last month of below normal temperatures pipe work that wasn’t properly lagged is now starting to split. These four pieces were replaced last week. To make matters worse the hot water heater wasn’t protected either!

This weeks award is hard to see in this picture but was crystal clear when trying to repair a faulty pilot assembly. If you look closely at the ring that holds in the pilot burner assembly and you’ll see that is has deep scratch marks in it.
The reason is that the ring doesn’t actually fit this water heater and has been forced into place in order to get it to work at some point in the past. We discovered the problem when called out to service the unit when it wouldn’t light. continue
We were surprised to find this little gem when called to do a gas safety for a client we’ve known for a few years.
Since our last visit they had decided to add some ventilation so called out a builder with a saw and let him loose. Unfortunately for everyone the builder didn’t have a clue about gas safety so cut a vent hole too close to this balanced flue.

Description: One of our favourite jobs is keeping many of the food vendors at the ManUTD Stadium up and running. We usually get little notice when there is a problem and do our best to sort things out quickly. This boiler required some new parts and a service. This multipoint hot water heater continues to keeps hands and pots clean during events. continue
